World War II Ration Book Four, 1943

Scope and Content From the Collection:

This collection contains an American war ration book printed during World War II, issued to Mart Barton of Alton, Missouri. The pages contain printed, rip-out stamps for various rationed items. Some stamps have been torn out. The back of the ration book warns recipients to "NEVER BUY RATIONED GOODS WITHOUT RATION STAMPS" and "NEVER PAY MORE THAN LEGAL PRICE."

This collection contains three holiday menus for U. S. Army soldiers stationed in Iceland during World War II. The dinner menus are for Thanksgiving and Christmas 1943 and Thanksgiving 1944. The 1943 menus are both for the 824th Engineers Aviation Battalion and list some of the personnel. The Thanksgiving 1943 menu also includes signatures of several soldiers.
